About the Napa Valley Region
Napa Valley is all about the wine industry and is a world renown resort destination for wine tasting and therapeutic hot springs, such as those found in Calistoga. Wine grapes are grown on over 90% of all agricultural lands in the region.
While the Patwin American Indian peoples originally populated the area, by the time Europeans arrived, the Napa Region had six separate warring tribes. The first European presence was a Spanish Fort built in 1776. The area was eventually settled in the 1830's, and American immigrants began to arrive in the 1840's. The region became part of the United States following the Mexican-American War in 1848.
